Washington Redskins schedule released

The Washington Redskins 2010 schedule has been released and is highlighted by their two divisional games against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Everyone is highly anticipating those two matchups as quarterback Donovan McNabb battles against his former team.

Of course fans are also very much looking forward to the two divisional games against the rival Dallas Cowboys as well.

Getting away from the rivalries and the NFC East, Washington’s schedule is fair yet challenging.

It features games against the Indianapolis Colts, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans.

Tough home games await Redskins in 2010

By Bud L. Ellis

If the Washington Redskins are going to recover from last season’s 4-12 debacle, they’ll have to try and knock off some of the National Football League’s top teams at home in 2010.

The NFL has announced what teams the Redskins will play at home and on the road this season. Dates will be finalized later this spring.

Five of the Redskins’ eight home games are against postseason qualifiers from last season. The slate is far from easy, starting with NFC East rivals Dallas (the defending division champ) and Philadelphia, which reached the playoffs as wild card last season. Also playing the Redskins at home who reached the playoffs last season are AFC champion Indianapolis, NFC runner-up Minnesota and wild-card team Green Bay. Rounding out the home slate are games with the New York Giants, Tampa Bay and Houston.

On the road, the Redskins travel to Dallas and Philly, the only two playoff teams on the road slate. Also on the road schedule are trips to the Giants, Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, Jacksonville and Tennessee.

Based on last season’s opponents’ win percentage, Washington’s schedule ranks eighth in the NFL.

Portis Game-Time Decision for Sunday

After suffering one of the most embarrassing losses in recent franchise history, the Redskins could be without their starting running back this weekend as they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

RB Clinton Portis sat out of practice Friday, resting a bruised calf that he sustained during the second half of last week’s 19-14 debacle against the Detroit Lions. Portis has also been dealing with bone spurs in both ankles, a problem that will likely debilitate him all season.

Redskins coach Jim Zorn made clear that Portis’ calf is the reason that Portis is a game-time decision, further saying he has a “50-50” chance of playing. Time to pick Ladell Betts off those fantasy football waiver wires.

Even if Portis does play, he’s started out of the gates excruciatingly slowly this year, with only 183 yards on 47 carries through the Redskins first three games.

Betts and Marcus Mason split first-team reps on Friday’s practice.

Luckily, with Josh Johnson starting at QB for the Buccaneers on Sunday, the Redskins might not need Portis and still could register an easy victory. Although, after last week’s calamity with the Lions, no Redskins fan would be happy to see Portis sitting on the bench on Sunday.
